These new Scrabble rules are WILD!

- In a big development for the Scrabble world, numerous new rules were just added to the tournament rulebook, effective immediately. It just so happened that fellow expert Seth Lipkin hosted a tournament this morning, the first event with the new rules in effect.
And it also happened that the first ever game with the new rules was played between Seth and myself. And what a game it was. Even though I usually record videos a week or two in advance, the game was so wild that I had to scramble and show it to you guys the same day. Here it is, enjoy! Игры
It's worth mentioning that even though Seth doesn't get the 20 additional points for playing his own name, he does get 50 additional points if it doesn't get challenged due to it being covered in a Mack Meller video.
Or if the attempted challenge somehow gets rejected, which seems more likely in this game.
It's April First, boys and girls!
Unbelievable game WOW thanks for sharing !
i think my favorite part was '40% more lenient than collins is just every combination of letters is valid'
Lol yeah that one was Seth's originally, I agree it's great!
The best part of this video was calling the opening double-triple 'rarely' seen... understatement of the year.
Haven't watched this yet, but I'm very suspicious and expect to be entertained
You shall not pass was brilliant 😂
Can't wait to try these new rules at club! 😆😆
Me too! I will be playing Bob as often as I can now that there is a bonus 20 points available :)
Let me know how it goes!
Lourerer in the thumbnail? Nothing to see here, folks, just a normal game
I haven't seen the video yet, but it would be amazing to see a game where you can only play phonies only if you can make a definition for them
Only if you can make a FUNNY ENOUGH definition for them!
I'm glad you told us at the end that this was only an April Fool's joke, Mack, otherwise I would have to have pointed out another couple of end game mistakes. Firstly, although it was an N, 'GEZTLES' could have been played by putting the tile sideways on the board, which by rule 13.Q.4.Epsilon counts as N for the purpose of the word, but as a Z for the points value. Mack could have gained a lot more points here! Secondly, if the losing player has tiles on his rack which he could have played at the end of the game, he's allowed to do so by rule Aleph.pi.L.1,000,000 - and he could have played the D above zzzyvva to create ddzzzyvva - under yet another new rule (R.2.D.2) a phony already on the board isn't any phonier if extended, so is allowable. Thank goodness this WAS an April Fool's joke, eh?
I think you forgot rule zeta.xi.vav.8.8, which also allows you to play off the board, so Seth could also just bingo out with GENTLESWINESOP and win!
@@mackmeller Fair point. Too many new rules to consider!!!
17:40 “In a collins game, the computer will be set to all combinations of letters are valid”
So no change or penalty then
April fools! He kept referring to the player Mack in the third person, when Mack is, in reality, him. I love it when creators get into the spirit of the day! Very interesting new rules, though. I look forward to seeing how this changes the state of play in top level tournaments.
My only question is, do I get the 20 point bonus if I play JACKS or JAKS# since they're pronounced the same way?
The 'neutering' bit was what got me.
Thank you for talking about how to say Hold! My mind is now free of its shackles!
Perfect deadpan delivery by Mack!
All of these new rules and they still haven't added tie breakers? I'm very disappointed.
Crazy tie!
FYI: Rules can be found at the newrules php extension of cross-tables.
With these new absurd rules that Seth came up with, now, you might as well do anything you want! It's Free For All!!!
Such As:
Now, you can lick a tile for it to gain an extra 2 point value.
Now, if your opponent challenges your valid play, or if you challenge their invalid play, you can FaceTime Mack Meller and he gives you the best move next turn!
From now on, if you have the letters BDIIIKS on your rack, you can play the supposed non-word "skibidi", and win immediately, and then Mack Meller has to give you weekly Scrabble Lessons after that until he triple-triples with another supposed non-word "Gyattlike" or "Sigmalike" or "Ohiolike" or even "Hawktuah"!
If you rizz up the opponent, you get 30 points for being Gen Z, but your opponent get 30 points as well for compensation of you being inappropriate to them.
Sorry about my Gen Z attitude.
The good old bingo of lourerer from another video
if Seth had made a THIRD noncommittal statement of play acceptance, would the dictionary have become any possible string of letters?
I think since it's Collins now, the count resets and he gets another warning, then on the fourth infraction it becomes any possible string of letters. Also would like to propose a change so that 40% more lenient than Collins is Collins Clabbers, and 40% more lenient than Clabbers (after the 6th infraction) is any possible string of letters.
Good question! I'm honestly not sure haha
maybe if the challenge computer was changed to collins, seth’s penalty should have been 5 points rather than a lost turn 🤔
The april fools jokes have been getting me today ngl
You shall not pass got me
And finally... Scrabble 2!!!!
This is a great idea!
Thanks!
Day 24 of asking for the high scoring tie of clabbers
Meh, most of my tournament games are more exciting than this
Dang you need to make more videos on all this crazy excitement then 😉
Took me over 2 minutes in to realize what was happening 😂
I love how I knew what was happening right away, but never stopped laughing harder for each new rule!😅
The only confusing part to me is the blank rule. I mean, something like AbOI(T)EaU for 74 still gets rid of the blanks, so wouldn't that also obey the rule? And if the important part is to keep some points on your rack, then you shouldn't play natural bingos either, I'd say?
That aside, I love the ridiculousness of not just the exact rules, but simply what's made relevant by the rules!😅 (e.g. the way you say something, what your name is or what's been featured in your videos)
haha yeah fair with the blanks, but I had to set up ZZZYVVA somehow!
@@mackmeller Yeah, but couldn't you just give him AJVVY?? to achieve it in one turn without allowing a bingo? Of course the extension is cooler though!🙂
Thought this would be strip scrabble, but good enough
21:23 Nerdfighteria was right all along: Sneezing is not normal. Glad to finally see it being penalized.
It took me 3 and a half minutes to look at the date.
But what's the difference between settings to Collins and "all combinations of letters are valid"? That's the same thing. I don't think this satisfies the rule.
Yo Mack how long are these rules active for, seriously?
Yes
@mackmeller *Me realizing I watched the video knowing it was an April fools joke and being embarrassed 😳*
16:02 "any player whose name is not a valid word should have a serious conversation with their parents" coward's way out. a real pro would simply transition
whew... the uprights gave it away, april fools day... lol
LEGENDS is better than GENTLES. GLEEDS is also better than GENTLES and does not require Mack to say "UNO".
It was clearly a joke video because the football uprights rule is discriminatory against one-handed players. That was the dead giveaway.
too good
Very long April fools joke… Ha ha ha good job
Thanks!
Hold
HOOOOOLLLLLDDDDD!
LULZ. ❤
lulz#
these new rules suck. i got 2 mins in. i know its a joke. it sucks. bye. don't waste my time
Not you as well. Yawn.
